Technology has become an essential part of our everyday lives, and with innovations like IoT, the way we live, shop, and interact has changed dramatically. Devices like Alexa, Google Nest & HomePods, and smart refrigerators are simplifying tasks by tracking usage and suggesting what to buy. Now, with Visa’s AI-powered agentic commerce, we’re moving towards a future where intelligent systems recommend, suggest and can take action for us—making shopping more personalized, convenient, and secure.
Visa is partnering with some of the biggest names in artificial intelligence to enable AI-powered shopping, like- Microsoft, OpenAI, Anthropic, IBM, Mistral AI, Perplexity, Samsung, and Stripe. Visa Intelligent Commerce allows consumers to leverage AI agents to shop, book tickets & hotels online and place orders on their behalf based on their pre-selected preferences.
A new era of commerce is here – one where AI can handle everything from product discovery to post-purchase, while still giving you full control on payment authentication. With just a tap, Visa enables a smarter, more personalized, and secure shopping experience.
By bringing cutting-edge AI into the world of payments, Visa is helping shape a future where the entire customer journey is seamless and tailored to individual needs—raising the bar for what digital commerce can look like.
For example, AI agents can simplify travel planning by offering personalized suggestions for flights, stays, and activities based on individual preferences—and even handling the booking process. When combined with Visa’s advanced payment solutions, these agents can securely complete transactions on the user’s behalf, creating a seamless and stress-free travel experience from beginning to end.

Visa’s Unified Platform Offers 5 Integrated Services: [2]
- Tokenization
- Authentication
- Payment instructions
- Signals
- Personalization
How it works: [2]
- Agent onboarding: Agents join the Visa Intelligent Commerce platform to access five services.
- Agent specific tokens: Agents help users create accounts and link Visa cards. Cards go through extra verification and a Passkey is set up.
- Personalization: Agents may ask users for consent to use Visa insights to personalize experiences.
- Payment instructions: When recommending purchases, agents ask users for permission to buy on their behalf.
- Authentication: Users approve payment instructions using their Passkey. Agents send these to the platform.
- Payment credentials: Agents request credentials to buy from merchants. Visa checks that they match the user’s approved instructions.
- Make payments: Agents use these credentials to complete purchases, using guest checkout or form fill at first.
- Transaction controls: VisaNet checks that the payment comes from the right merchant and for the correct amount.
- Commerce signals: Agents report purchase results back to Visa, which helps resolve any disputes.
As digital transformation progresses, innovations like this are reshaping the role of technology in commerce—driving real impact across industries. AI is already disrupting the way people discover, assess, and decide on what to purchase, especially when it comes to big, intentional buying decisions. And as agentic AI continues to advance, this shift is only set to grow faster.
Whether it’s assisting you with shopping or travel planning, agentic AI is making life much easier. Even though these tools are extremely intelligent, it’s important to keep in mind that they should serve us rather than just those around us. For instance, if airline websites detect that you are visiting several sites, they may increase prices. The true victory will come when this technology strikes a reasonable balance between assisting customers and not tipping the scales in favour of sellers. Because trust is ultimately just as valuable as convenience.
